Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada

The mandate of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) is to inform all Canadians about the history and legacy of Canada’s Indian Residential Schools, and to guide and inspire a process of reconciliation and renewed relationships based on mutual understanding and respect. The TRC was established as a result of the 2007  Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement – a court-ordered settlement to the largest class-action law suit in Canadian history.
