Haida Gwaii – Haida Nation

Haida Gwaii was formerly known as Queen Charlotte Island and the BC government officially changed the name of the islands as part of a historic reconcilliation agreement between the province and the Haida Nation in December 2009. Haida Gwaii means “Islands of the People” in Haida language.  Hlgaagilda Xaayda Kil is the language of the Haida.

You can download a free iTunes app to learn some of their language at: https://itunes.apple.com/app/hlgaagilda-xaayda-kil/id474664985?mt=8

There is Skidegate Band Council, and the Haida Heritage Center participating in this tour from Haida Gwaii, a beautiful cluster of islands at the most westernly part of BC.

Bill Reid Gallery is located in Vancouver and Bill Reid is world renowned for his Haida art and was born to Haida mother, from the ancestral village, Tanu.
